In the spirit of the coming Eid-el-Kabir (Sallah), Sen. Aliyu Wamakko, representing Sokoto North Senatorial District, has secured the freedom of 21 inmates of Sokoto Central Prison after paying their N2.1 million fine.

The magnanimous act was carried out under the auspices of the Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko Free Legal Services, a charity organisation founded by the former Sokoto State governor.

Wamakko, who is now the Chairman, Senate Committee on Basic and Secondary Education, was represented at the event on Thursday morning by Mr Bashir Jodi, the Secretary of the organisation, The Sun writes.

According to him, it was a gesture aimed at reuniting families for the celebration of Sallah, in furtherance of the spirit of forgiveness and selflessness associated with the season.

. “The gesture is aimed at enabling the beneficiaries to celebrate the Eid-el-Kabir with their various families,” Jodi said.

. “Such philanthropic acts are highly encouraged during the first 10 days of Dhul-Hijjah.”

He further called on the freed inmates to steer clear of all nefarious acts that would send them back to jail.

Responding to the kind gesture, the beneficiaries, in separate comments, commended Wamakko for the gesture and promised to stay out of trouble henceforth.
