Libyans auction Nigerians, others for $400 - CNN report

Stranded Nigerians and migrants of other nationals in Libya are in a dire situation as smugglers now auction them for sale as slaves in the North African country for as low as $400 (N144,000). In a video footage report published by CNN, some stranded immigrants were seen in a brief clip being auctioned for sale, with the auctioneer saying they are, “big strong boys for farm work.” According to the report, Nigerians are sold at the auctions, which usually take place at least twice in a month, for 900, 1,000 Libyan Dinars, depending on the physical strength the migrant possesses. In the video, an unidentified Nigerian, who is believed to be in his late 20s, was sold during the transaction. Ikoyi whistle-blower jets out as FG pays first tranche of his N421m reward

The whistle-blower, who helped the EFCC recover the $43m, N23.2m and £27,800 (N13bn) from an Ikoyi apartment on April 12, 2017, has finally been paid his commission, Punchng reports. It was also learnt that the whistle-blower travelled out of the country less than 24 hours after receiving part of the N421m reward. The whistle-blower’s lawyer, Mr. Yakubu Galadima, confirmed the development on Wednesday. He praised the government for finally honouring its agreement after eight months. He, however, said his client had not been paid in full, adding that the FG had promised to pay him the balance next year. Policeman allegedly kills final year student over refusal to give N100 bribe

A policeman has allegedly shot to death one Imo Ekanem, a final year student of the Department of Mass Communication, Uyo City Polytechnic, Nduetong Oku, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, over the victim’s refusal to give N100 bribe, Punchng reports. Ekanem was shot dead by the policeman at his hometown, Nkek, on Saturday, while he was on errand using his mother’s motorcycle. An eyewitness, Usung Simeon, revealed that Ekanem was killed by one of the policemen attached to the special squad the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Zubairu Muazu, sent to the area to confront recurrent cult activities. Simeon said the policemen stopped and searched Ekanem but they did not find anything incriminating thing with him. He added that the policemen demanded N100 from him, but his refusal to part with the money led to a policeman killing him.
