Building collapse: Man, wife, three children escape death

Five members of the same family escaped death by a whisker when a three-storey building under construction collapsed at Ohuru Isimiri in Obi Ngwa Local Government Area of Abia State. The victims – an artisan, his wife, and three children –were trapped in the building which collapsed on Sunday night but were rescued and rushed to the hospital. Transgender camp offers programs for children as young as 4

A summer camp for transgender and “gender fluid” children is taking in children as young as 4. The camp seems like any other. Children arrive with a packed lunch, make friendship bracelets, sing songs and get silly. But each day at check-in, campers make a nametag with their pronoun of choice. Some opt for “she” or “he” while others choose “they” or something else. And enrollment at the camp is booming. The number of children at the San Francisco Bay area camp has tripled to about 60 youngsters, from age 4 to 12, since it opened three summers ago, with kids coming from as far away as Los Angeles, Washington, D.C. and even Africa. There is talk of opening branches of the camp across the country. Experts say there are few camps like it.

“I will end herdsmen killings” – President Buhari Vows

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday assured Nigerians that the rising attacks on communities by herdsmen will soon be brought under control by security forces deployed to the vulnerable areas across the country. The National Economic Council (NEC) had last week set up a committee to be headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to end the killings by killer herdsmen in the country. Suspected killer herdsmen have killed over 200 people across the country this year alone. According to a statement by his special adviser on media and publicity, Femi Adesina, the president made the remarks when he received the board of directors of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group at the presidential villa yesterday.

Lawyer to Court: Fani-Kayode has heart disease

The trial of a former Aviation minister, Femi Fani-kayode, stalled on Wednesday after the defendant’s lawyer told the judge his client could not attend proceedings due to heart-related ailments. Norris Quakers, Mr. Fani-Kayode’s lawyer, said the ex-minister was complaining of a heart-related pain and had hospitalized for a heart disease. He said he would provide a medical report later today. Mr. Fani-Kayode and Nenadi Usman, a former minister of state for finance, are facing a 17-count of money laundering amounting to N4.6 billion. The adjournment prayer was not opposed by the prosecuting counsel for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr. Rotimi Oyedepo.

A former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Dahiru Musdapher, has died in a London hospital. Musdapher was 75 years old. He was appointed as the CJN by former president Goodluck Jonathan in 2011.

A cross section of Imo indigenes, resident in Abuja, under the auspices of Concerned Imo state Leaders have asked the State Governor, Rochas Okorocha to immediately resign over what they described as leadership incompetence and serial blunder on the most elementary duties of governance. F ormer Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Olu Falae, has kicked against the attack on his farmland in Ilado, Ondo state by suspected herdsmen yesterday January 22nd. The herdsmen, about 10 in number, attacked the farm at about 5.30pm. The maize and cassava planted on the farm were destroyed completely while his oil plantation was adversely affected.
