Court dismisses Evans’ ₦300m Human Rights Suit

A Federal High Court in Lagos, on Tuesday, dismissed a ₦300 million Fundamental Right Enforcement suit, filed by suspected billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike a.k.a. Evans. Evans had challenged his detention for 11 days, before a charge was preferred against him. The court, presided by Justice Abdulazeez Anka, dismissed the suit for lacking merit. Evans, through his lawyer, Olukayode Ogungbeje, had filed the suit against the Inspector General of Police (IGP) alleging wrongful detention. Also joined as respondents were the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), Commissioner of Police (COP) Lagos State and the Lagos State Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS). In the suit, Evans, had urged the court for an order, directing the police to charge him to court immediately or release him on bail. Police in Lagos, yesterday, placed a N30 million bounty on the head of wanted notorious kidnapper, identified simply as Evans. A South Carolina teacher and a mother of one, has been arrested and charged with the sexual battery of a child. Jennifer Olajire-Aro, 27, was arrested on December 18. The Charleston Post and Courier reports that Olajire-Aro is a resident of John’s Island. It was the victim who told officials at Burke High School about the alleged abuse. A school spokesman, Charles Francis, told the newspaper, “The incidents occurred off campus.” ABC Charleston reports that the alleged abuse between Olajire-Aro and the student lasted for “several months.” Olajire-Aro has admitted to the abuse and said that occurred three times in different locations between November and December.
