The Vice Chancellor, University of University, UI, Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka ordered all the undergraduate students of the institution to vacate the institution. Olayinka who responded to the protest staged said, “all the undergraduate students should leave all of residence on or before 6pm on Monday. He also postponed the first semester exam slated to start tomorrow to Monday July 17, 2017. He however stated that the order does not affect the academic programme of the post graduate students saying that their lectures and other academic activities continue. It would be recalled that the university authority tried to appeal to the students to shelve their plan demonstration in the interest of peace. But the students still went ahead on Monday to stage a protest. Monday morning, there was heavy military presence at the university entrance to forestall breakdown of law and order. Woman locks housemaid in toilet for 20 days

For allegedly locking up her 14-year-old housemaid in a toilet for 20 days, a 34-year-old woman, Onyinye Chuks, was yesterday taken before an Ikeja Chief Magistrate’s court in Lagos State. Chuks, a trader, who resides at 19, Ojo Street, Shasha, a suburb of Lagos, is facing a four-count charge bordering on assault. The prosecutor, Sergeant Raphael Donny, told the court the offences were committed between May 2 and 22 at the residence of the accused. Vanguard reports. Donny said that the accused alleged that the housemaid stole her money, beat her and “locked the girl inside her toilet, fed her once and didn’t allow her to take a bath or change her clothes for those weeks in bondage. “It was one of the neighbours, who could not bear the torment anymore that informed the police.” The prosecutor said that following the report, the police visited the house and found the girl in the condition. “Hence, the accused was arrested while the girl was taken to the hospital for treatment,” Ho...
